Therapy Methods
We are dedicated to effective, evidence-based modalities that our counselors are professionally trained in.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) starts with the premise that our thoughts, emotions and behaviors are all connected. Through CBT, clients learn to identify these automatic negative thoughts, assess whether their thinking accurately reflects reality, and, if not, employ a variety of structured questioning techniques to both challenge the thinking and replace it with something more constructive.

Person-centered therapy is a type of non-directive therapy that is empathetically driven toward providing a person with a safe space to talk and self-actualize positive changes in their life. It empowers the client to take control of their mental health without judgment and helps improve the client's self-awareness. Person-Centered therapy provides clients with the tools and resources they need to understand themselves and what they need to achieve positive change in their lives.

Brainspotting is a therapeutic technique that involves eye positioning, somatic experiencing and mindfulness as a means of finding and releasing neurophysiological sources of physical and emotional pain. The trusting and attuned relationship with the practitioner serves as the foundation for lower brain transformation. Brainspotting allows healing to occur beyond traditional talk therapy. Many clients find it helpful for trauma, anxiety, grief, overwhelming emotions, life transitions, and feeling "stuck."

Sports and Mental Performance Counseling may incorporate techniques such as goal setting, visualization, mindfulness, confidence building, self-talk training, performance anxiety management, focus and attention training, resilience development, and cognitive behavioral strategies to help athletes perform at their highest potential.

In Family Systems Therapy, therapy involves the entire family unit, and allows the family to work together to resolve a problem that affects one or more of its members. Examples of issues suited to this treatment method include depression, anxiety, personality disorders, addiction, and eating disorders. Treatment involves first allowing each member of the family to share how they have been affected by the identified issues before moving on to explore individual family roles, underlying dynamics, and how best to support each other in light of strengths and weaknesses.

Connected Families is a Christian organization created to bring a research-informed, trauma-sensitive parenting framework to parents, churches, schools and non-profits. This framework was created using principles of brain science, biblical teaching, and years of personal and professional experience. We love Connected Families because they provide a thorough philosophical backdrop while also empowering parents with ample practical tools to help them in the everyday moments of raising children.
